Coming out of the Fourth of July weekend this week's Fulfilment Focus is brief and all about the World Cup.
Next week will be back to the regular format!
The Supply Chain Behind the World Cup
When people think about the FIFA World Cup, they think about the matches. Operators tend to think about everything that has to happen before the opening whistle.
With 48 national teams, three host countries, 16 stadiums, dozens of training facilities, and millions of fans moving throughout North America, the tournament is one of the largest logistics operations in the world.
Every part of the supply chain gets involved:
Customs and international freight for team equipment and broadcast assets
Warehousing and distribution supporting venues, sponsors, and hospitality
Inventory forecasting and replenishment for licensed merchandise
Transportation planning for teams, officials, and fans moving between cities and across borders
And that's just FIFA's operation. Layer in sponsors, retailers, food and beverage suppliers, broadcasters, and local organizers, and the scale becomes even more impressive.
It's a good reminder that the world's biggest events aren't just won on the field. They're supported by thousands of logistics professionals making sure the right people, products, and equipment arrive in the right place at the right time.
